With The Super Mario Galaxy Movie expected to reach $370 Million at the worldwide box office, it would make it the third biggest opening for any animated movie. However, it is tracking behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which had a $377 Million opening weekend.

In July 2025, Nintendo and Universal Studios filed a joint copyright for a Donkey Kong movie. The project didn’t have a title at the time of filing. It would make great sense for Nintendo to start doing spinoffs in the Mario universe, and what better way to do it than with Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong.
